DURABLE SHARPNESS
X30Cr13 is the secret of the high-quality stainless steel and delivers durable sharpness thanks to its individual qualities. The forged knives in the ActiveCut series are honed twice during the final sharpening process – this gives them their special sharpness.

PERFECT FOR THE PROFESSIONAL KITCHEN
The knife fits comfortably in your hand. The handle is made of a non-slip and abrasion-resistant material, preparing you for all challenges in the kitchen. Now, wet hands and hygiene are no longer a problem. The handle and the blade are joined without gaps and therefore absolutely hygienic. In addition, the ActiveCut knives are perfectly balanced, which means that this knife's centre of gravity is exactly in the middle of the knife, between the blade and the handle. This supports you in your daily tasks and saves your strength.

MADE IN GERMANY
The ActiveCut series is made in Germany. A good knife requires many work steps. Our ActiveCut knives go through numerous production steps at our Deizisau site before they are finished. Starting with the machining of the steel and right through to the finishing of the cutting edge.

KNIFE CARE
All F. DICK knives deserve special care and attention when it comes to maintenance. Proper knife care is crucial. Knives that are forged or have a wooden handle should never be cleaned in the dishwasher. Knives with plastic handles are completely dishwasher safe; however cleaning in a dishwasher is much more aggressive than washing by hand.

The use of highly concentrated detergents, leaving the knives in hot steam for a long time and also the presence of certain food residues can lead to pitting on the blades or even corrosion. We recommend clean the knife by hand with a soft cloth and a mild alkaline detergent. Wipe your knife after cleaning to ensure that tit is thoroughly dry – this will prevent any pitting on the blade. You can occasionally maintain knives with wooden handles with food-safe oils (e.g. olive oil). The oil makes the handle nice and smooth and prevents shrinkage and cracks.

PROFESSIONAL KNIFE STORAGE
For your safety and to protect the cutting edges of the blades, we recommend that you store the knives in a suitable knife block or on a magnetic rail. When buying a knife block, make sure you buy one with enough space and horizontal slots to protect the knife blades. We recommend our own blade guard for storage in a drawer - Edge Guard. or alternatively, dimensionally accurate compartments built into the drawer.

BLADE GUARD FOR KNIVES
Blade guard – Edge Guard, the special blade guard for storage, especially in drawers. Click here to see the blade guard for blades up to 26 cm.

KNIFE BLOCK FOR KNIVES
Knife block: Knife block with tourne knife, paring knife, boning knife, carving knife, bread knife, chef's knife, meat fork, sharpening steel and kitchen shears.

HOW DO KNIVES STAY SHARP FOR A LONG TIME?
Knives stay sharp for a long time if they are only used for their intended purpose. The knives should only be used for cutting and not chopping. Bones or the like should therefore only be cut with a cleaver.

WOODEN OR PLASTIC CUTTING BASES
Hard surfaces such as stone (e.g. marble) or glass should not be used as a base, as they quickly blunt the knives.

FAQ

People Also Ask:

Q: What is the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10" best for?

A: The F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10" is designed as a versatile primary kitchen knife for slicing, dicing, chopping, and general food preparation. Its 10-inch blade provides additional cutting length compared to smaller chef knives, making it particularly useful when processing larger vegetables, herbs, proteins, and bulk ingredients. The knife is intended to handle the majority of daily prep tasks in professional and training kitchens. As part of the ActiveCut series, it combines forged construction, durable sharpness, and balanced handling. This makes it suitable for users who want a professional-quality chef knife without moving into Friedr. Dick's premium specialist collections.

Q: Who should use the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10"?

A: This knife is well suited to culinary students, professional chefs, foodservice teams, and serious home cooks looking for a professional-grade chef knife. The ActiveCut series was developed as an entry point into forged German chef knives. It is positioned for users who want to develop proper knife skills while working with professional-quality equipment. The 10-inch blade is particularly appealing to cooks who regularly prepare larger quantities of food and prefer the efficiency of a longer cutting edge.

Q: Why would someone choose a 10-inch chef knife instead of an 8-inch chef knife?

A: A 10-inch chef knife offers more blade length, greater slicing efficiency, and improved productivity when working with large ingredients. The longer blade allows users to complete cuts with fewer strokes. This can be advantageous when slicing large onions, cabbages, melons, roasts, or bulk-prep ingredients. It also helps maintain smoother slicing motions. Many professional chefs prefer longer chef knives because they can handle both fine and large-scale prep without switching tools as often.

Q: Can the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10" handle high-volume prep work?

A: Yes. The knife is designed for daily use in professional kitchen environments. Its forged construction, durable stainless-steel blade, ergonomic handle, and balanced design help reduce fatigue during extended prep sessions. The centre of gravity is positioned between the blade and handle, supporting controlled and efficient cutting. For restaurants, catering operations, culinary schools, and institutional kitchens, the knife provides the durability and versatility expected from a primary prep knife.

Q: Is the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10" suitable for culinary students?

A: Yes. The ActiveCut series was specifically positioned to support cooks who are beginning professional culinary training. Students benefit from learning with a forged knife that provides proper balance, professional ergonomics, and consistent cutting performance. This allows them to build correct cutting techniques from the start. The knife offers many of the characteristics professional chefs expect while remaining approachable for developing skills.

Q: Can this chef knife be used for both vegetables and proteins?

A: Yes. The F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10" is designed as a multi-purpose chef knife. It performs well on vegetables, herbs, fruits, boneless meats, and many other common prep ingredients. The blade profile supports rocking, slicing, and push-cutting techniques commonly used in professional kitchens. Like most chef knives, it is intended for cutting rather than chopping through bones or frozen foods.

Q: How sharp is the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10"?

A: The knife is engineered for strong cutting performance and is honed twice during the final sharpening process. This additional honing process contributes to the edge quality and cutting precision associated with the ActiveCut series. The blade is manufactured from X30Cr13 stainless steel, selected for its balance of sharpness, durability, and ease of maintenance. Users can expect clean, controlled cuts across a wide range of kitchen tasks.

Q: What results should users expect from the ActiveCut Chef Knife?

A: Users should expect reliable cutting performance, comfortable handling, and consistent control during everyday food preparation. The knife combines a forged blade with balanced weight distribution and an ergonomic handle. Together, these features help improve cutting precision while reducing strain during repetitive work. For most users, the result is smoother prep work and greater confidence during demanding kitchen tasks.

Q: How durable is the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10"?

A: The knife is built for repeated kitchen use and long-term performance. Its forged construction, stainless-steel blade, abrasion-resistant handle, and hygienic handle-to-blade transition are designed to withstand demanding professional environments. With proper care, sharpening, and storage, the knife can provide years of dependable service.

Q: Does the balanced design make a noticeable difference?

A: Yes. Balance is one of the most important characteristics of a professional chef knife. The ActiveCut series is engineered so the centre of gravity sits between the blade and handle. This balanced feel helps improve control, reduces unnecessary wrist strain, and contributes to more efficient cutting movements. Users performing large volumes of prep work often notice the benefit most clearly.

Q: Is the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10" suitable for commercial kitchen environments?

A: Yes. The knife was designed specifically for professional kitchen use. The non-slip handle supports secure grip even during busy service periods, while the seamless transition between blade and handle helps maintain hygienic standards by reducing areas where food residue can accumulate. These features make the knife appropriate for restaurants, catering operations, culinary schools, and institutional kitchens.

Q: Is the handle comfortable during long prep sessions?

A: Yes. The handle is designed to support extended use. Its non-slip, abrasion-resistant material promotes secure handling while maintaining comfort throughout repetitive cutting tasks. Combined with the knife's balanced construction, the handle helps reduce fatigue during longer prep periods. This is particularly valuable in high-volume kitchen environments.

Q: Is the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10" easy to maintain?

A: Yes. Routine maintenance is straightforward. F. Dick recommends hand washing, immediate drying after cleaning, and storing the knife in a knife block, magnetic rack, or protective blade guard. Proper care helps preserve edge performance and blade condition over time. Like any professional knife, regular honing and periodic sharpening will support long-term performance.

Q: What cutting surfaces work best with the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10"?

A: Wood and professional-grade plastic cutting boards are recommended. These surfaces help protect the cutting edge and support longer edge retention. Hard materials such as stone, marble, or glass can dull knife edges much more quickly and should be avoided. Using an appropriate cutting board is one of the simplest ways to extend knife life.

Q: What accessories pair well with the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10"?

A: A sharpening steel, blade guard, knife block, magnetic storage rail, and professional cutting board are all useful accessories. These products help maintain edge performance, improve safety, and protect the blade between uses. F. Dick specifically recommends protective storage solutions and proper knife care practices. For professional users, a regular sharpening routine is often as important as the knife itself.

Q: How does the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10" compare to the ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 8.5"?

A: Both knives share the same ActiveCut construction, steel, ergonomics, and design philosophy. The primary difference is blade length. The 10-inch model provides greater reach and efficiency for larger ingredients and higher-volume prep work, while the 8.5-inch model offers slightly more agility and manoeuvrability in tighter workspaces. The best choice depends on cutting style, ingredient size, and personal preference.

Q: How does the ActiveCut series compare with entry-level stamped chef knives?

A: The ActiveCut series provides the balance, feel, and construction associated with forged knives. Users typically gain improved balance, a more substantial feel in hand, and professional-level ergonomics. For users developing knife skills, these characteristics can contribute to greater control and confidence.

Q: Is the F. Dick ActiveCut Chef Knife Black 10" reliable for daily service?

Users looking for professional performance without moving into premium collector-focused knife lines often find the ActiveCut series to be a practical choice.
